Tamil short story: Thayyaal

Print edition : December 06, 2019

Geeta Dharmarajan, whose name is synonymous with contemporary Indian fiction, is the founder-editor of Katha Publications and an inspirational writer, social entrepreneur and educationist. An award-winning writer for children and adults with over 48 published books and more than 450 articles in leading newspapers and magazines, she believes that translation is a cohesive force in India. Her work in literary translation has made Katha a pioneering publisher in the country.

This month’s story is by a writer about whom nothing is known or available. We also do not know if she wrote anything else. Though published long ago, the story brings alive life in rural Tamil Nadu as it continues to be even today.
