The two aeroplanes that pierced through the twin towers of New York's World Trade Centre on the morning of September 11, 2001, dealt a mortal blow to Pax Americana, jolting the world policeman into a global hunt for its new enemies after the end of the "evil empire" of communism. Al Qaeda's maximum terror provided the pretext for the U.S. to launch a "war on terror", which resulted in colossal "collateral damage" in Iraq and Afghanistan even after it became clear the 9/11 perpetrators were from the soil of its oil-rich friends in West Asia.
