As they grow up daughters are made to perform household chores and look after younger siblings.
They are subjected to arranged and early marriages in a large number of cases, while violence can easily be perpetrated against them if they try to marry by choice.
Dowry is given or has to be given when they are married.
After marriage she is not supposed to return to her natal home, even if she faces domestic violence.
Whereas sons are educated to be gainfully employed, daughters are taught to be “good” homemakers.
However, the work that she performs in her natal and marital home is not counted as
productive work or work of any economic value.
Property is not given to daughters.
