Dr Sabyasachi Bhattacharya has been Vice-Chancellor of Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan, (1991-1995) and Professor of History at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi (1976-2003). He has also held teaching and research positions at St. Antony’s College, University of Oxford; University of Chicago and El Colegio de Mexico. His recent publications include Talking Back: the Idea of Civilization in the Indian Nationalist Discourse (Oxford University Press, Delhi, 2011); Vande Mataram: A Biography of a Song (2013); The Defining Moments in Bengal 1920-1947 (Oxford University Press, Delhi, 2014), The Colonial State: Theory and Practice (2016); and now in its seventh reprint The Mahatma and the Poet: letters and debates between Gandhi and Tagore (National Book Trust, Delhi)
