Gandhi dominated in the visual imaginary of nationalism among printmakers of pre-Independence India and the artists they commissioned to make “nationalist prints”, and the portrayals reflected popular culture, resulting in some interesting images of the Mahatma, for instance, with Bhagat Singh and even as Krishna.
