R. Ilangovan

Ilangovan Rajasekaran is Associate Editor in Frontline. In his more than three decades experience in Indian Express, The Hindu and Frontline he has been a witness to many churnings, both political and social, in Tamil Nadu. The issue of rights violations of Dalits, tribal people and other disadvantageous groups has been the focus of his reporting and it resulted in the exposure of atrocities against humanity, among them the Dalit uprising in Kodiyankulam village in the 1990s and the police violence against the tribal people of Gundupatti in the Palani Hills in 2001. He brought to light the continuance of the feudal practice of kuda olai (draw of lots from a pot) for selecting village panchayat chiefs around Madurai. The environment is another area of his interest.
